Frequently Asked Questions

Learning German Basics

Is German a difficult language to learn?

Contrary to belief, German is not more difficult to learn than other languages. With some persistence and tenacity, you should be able to hold a basic conversation in German after only a few lessons. Learning a language is a long-term commitment.

How to learn German fast?

There are no quick fixes; try immersing yourself in the German language. Take regular lessons and revise routinely. Acquire vocabulary, making it a habit from the start to learn the genders of nouns and the flexion of verbs. Read, watch, speak and listen to as much German as possible. Progress can be measured by taking exams.

Is German grammar hard to learn?

Grammar is part of learning German as a foreign language. The grammar basics do not differ significantly from those of other Indo-European languages, with cases, syntax, and flexion all being part of learning German. In our experience, the key is to learn vocabulary, and the grammar will fall into place. Check out our German language blog for grammar resources.

What type of German dialect should I learn?

The best is to learn High German (Hochdeutsch), which we teach and is widely understood in all German-speaking countries, standing you in good stead when speaking to Germans, Austrians and Swiss.

Will I speak German with a foreign accent?

We will teach you pronunciation and intonation from the very start to alleviate too much of an accent. The more you speak and listen, the better you will become at speaking German like a native.

When do you teach?

Mondays to Fridays from 7 am to 8 pm and at weekends from 9 am – 5 pm. Lesson timings are flexible from week to week to fit in with your schedule.

Where do you teach?

At your workplace or at your home in London. If you would rather have lessons at our office (EC2), then we can arrange that as well.

What is the cost of the lessons?

Private German lessons cost between £65 and £90 per hour depending on the time of day and how long you commit.

When can I start with my lessons?

You can begin any time throughout the year.

How many lessons do I need to take every week?

We recommend taking lessons twice a week with sufficient time for revision between lessons and homework.

Who conducts the lessons?

One dedicated German tutor is assigned to you.

Does the German tutor speak English?

Our Tutors are all native German speakers and fluent in English.

Are lessons conducted in German only?

That depends on your level of German. If you are at a lower intermediate level or higher, we conduct lessons only in German. Beginners find it beneficial if our tutors do some explaining in English. But the choice is yours.

What type of course material do I need?

We provide all course material except dictionaries. Learners looking to pass the European Reference Framework for Languages exam (A1, A2, B1, etc.) will need to buy a course book, which we can advise you on.

Do I need a dictionary for my language studies?

We recommend a conventional dictionary in addition to online ones or LLM’s 🥴. Once we have assessed your German, we can recommend a suitable one.

What does the service include?

An assessment of your German language skills, a tailored learning program, tuition, course material, homework and a constant review of your skill level.

How long do lessons last?

Our experience has shown that 90 minutes is optimal for short lessons.

What about the tutor's travel charges?

Travel charges are included within Central London.
