Who we are

German Language Coach was founded in 2007 by Stefan Oloffs, a native German speaker and tutor based. The business is based in the City of London of London behind the Bank of England at Bank station where we have taught German to professionals, corporate teams, and private individuals for nearly two decades.

German tutoring since 2007

Stefan founded the business to help London-based professionals communicate confidently in German, for work with DACH clients and colleagues, relocation, or personal goals such as citizenship or family reasons. Nearly two decades later, that remains the focus: one-to-one tuition, delivered in person wherever possible, built around each student’s level and objective rather than a fixed course structure.

Native German-speaking tutors

Lessons are taught by native German speakers, including Stefan Oloffs, professional teaching experience across all levels from complete beginners to advanced business German. Our client base includes FTSE 100 companies, mid-sized businesses and SMEs, foreign missions, central government departments, and private individuals — details of specific clients are on our testimonials and case studies pages.

Our teaching approach

Every course begins with an assessment of the student’s current level and goals, and a structured syllabus follows from there. Lessons combine speaking, listening, grammar and vocabulary relevant to the student’s own context — a business meeting, an exam, relocation, or simply personal interest. We set homework and expect it to be done: consistent self-study between lessons is, in our experience, the single biggest factor in how quickly a student progresses.

In-person tuition, with online available

In-person, one-to-one lessons delivered at the student’s workplace or home remain our core service and the format we recommend for students in London. Online lessons are also available for students outside London, or where an in-person arrangement isn’t practical.

Beyond the lesson

Stefan Oloffs also hosts the German Language Coach podcast and has spoken to the media on language learning, including the Financial Times, The Times, and the University of Sheffield’s School of Journalism.
